THE RULES
So, you're thinking of joining? Awesome! We'll keep this as short and sweet as possible so you can get on your way. However, the rules listed below must be followed at all times unless stated otherwise. These rules are set in place in order to keep this forum chaos free and it's members happy! Please respect them!
APPLYING & REGISTERING !
Once again, we'd like to welcome you to Retrospect! This site is an APC or otherwise known as an account per character site, meaning you will have one account per character.
When registering your character's account but please ensure that you use the FIRST, LAST format in all capitals. If you wish, you may make an OOC account to post on OOC matters. This username/display name may be whatever you wish, but please do not use names with numbers in them, (i.e. fairyprincess45) those accounts will promptly be corrected. It is preferred that you include the » symbol before your display name and use all capitals, however it is not required. ( To use the » symbol simply copy it into your display name on your profile ).
When applying, please be sure to fill out all the required portions of the application before submitting it to be checked by staff. If you need to, you can add a WIP or COMPLETE to the end of your application title to notify staff. Remember, you have two weeks to finish your application before it is removed!
CHARACTERS !
As of now there is a 5 character per member limit. This is to ensure that members can keep up with the characters they make and not clutter the site with unused characters. If it becomes popular demand to up the limit, and activity is good then we will consider changing this.
Another point that is somewhat common knowledge, NO Mary-Sues or Jane-Doe's please. As thrilling as it may be to have the 'perfect' character, they are very boring and unimaginative. Flaws are what make a character interesting and can often influence personality (and help you mold them into the person you want!). Try to be creative and if you need help, don't be afraid to ask!
Please, please, PLEASE do not copy characters from other members. I know it may seem silly for me to point out, but it is rather disappointing to have replicas all over the site. If you absolutely cannot think of a character, ask for help. It is ok to have simliar characters, but please do not copy personality, flaws and then slap a new face on them, it's insulting to the player! Twins are allowed so long as both parties consent to it. The twins MUST be played by two different players however. It would be kind of silly to have two of the same character, huh?
ACTIVITY !
To begin, we know that everyone has a life outside of roleplay and that's OK! It's not a crime to have real life situations come up every now and then. However, with that said, we do ask that you actively participate here as often as you can. If you find yourself unable to devote enough time to the site, either leave an absence note with an approximate time you plan to return or take a break from roleplay for awhile. We won't go anywhere!
We ask that you pop in at least twice a week if possible,
even if it's just to post in the chat or reply to messages, let us know you're alive and plan on coming back when you can manage it. We understand what it's like to have a muse that's MIA, but that cannot be a regular excuse. If you simply cannot get your muse going, take a break or stir up drama with your character! Don't be afraid to plot!
ROLEPLAYING !
We are an intermediate to advanced site and in those regards we ask that our members post something of substance; 250+ words please. We've all been newbies at one point in time and while we do accept people who don't have a lot of experience, we ask that if you're one of them, you do your very best to keep up. If you're having any trouble, please pm an admin. We're super friendly and would absolutely love to help you get into the swing of things.
Literacy is highly preferred, so please keep that in mind when
you're typing up your post. Spell checkers are awesome (and free) so please use them. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, though, and that's understandable. The absolute most important thing to keep in mind about all of this is that we are completely against chat speak. You can use it in the chatbox, but please not anywhere else. It is, however, ok to use it in special types of dialog or to show a message exchanged on in-character texts, emails, etc.
This is kind of obvious, but absolutely, positively NO god-modding or power-playing. We understand there are supernatural creatures that have powers over humans, but we ask that you consent the player of that character before you proceed with your actions. Not only is it a rule but it's common courtesy between members. You wouldn't want your character forced into something against your wishes would you?
Retrospect is a "create your own story" role-playing site. This simply means that while the site does have a central storyline which should be generally followed, members are allowed to shape and create the roleplay experience around them with their own minds. Players are encouraged to create plots both large and small in size, whether they are as simple as predetermining a couple to a war breaking out between species, the opportunities are endless. However, with that said, if your plot does include the majority of Retrospect's members we ask that it be approved by an administrator to make sure it is possible for one thing, and that it doesn't stray from the central storyline entirely. Before setting a plot into action we highly encourage members to create a poll in order to guage popularity among Retrospect's members. But in all, the story is yours to write folks, so don't hesitate to create!
Lastly, we here at Retrospect follow the liquid time format, meaning you may post in several threads at once with the same character. However, keep in mind that threads left inactive for over a month will be deleted, so you need to manage how many threads you join. Make sure you can devote time to all of them otherwise you'll be overwhelmed with posts to reply to.
GRAPHICS !
We do require that you have at least an avatar to represent your character on the board. Avatars may not be bigger than 140x140 and that's the size that we would like to encourage you to use. 100x100 is all right, of course, but the prettier in a slightly bigger size. Signatures are only required to list your characters, and you do not have to have graphics in them.
Now, on to the face claims. This part is insanely important. They have to be real celebrities. We don't do cartoon characters, anime peeps, or Myspace kids. As far as celebrities go, we're not going to tell you who you can and can't use. It IS preferred that you choose a celebrity and not a random model on some site, but we won't deny your application just because we don't like your
character's representative.
RATING !
This site is currently at a PG-13 rating. There are concepts on the site that are not for young minds or faint of heart. So please, if your squeamish or are not comfortable with violence, adult language and some suggestive themes then this is not the site for you.
OUT OF CHARACTER !
First and foremost, please be courteous and respectful to other members, guests, staff, etc. We want a nice environment on the site and would like it to be a place to enjoy, not somewhere to hash out arguments. If you have a problem with a member, talk it out with them privately or discuss the matter with a staff member.
Please refrain from explicit vulgar language OOCly. IC posts with some vulgarity are allowed, but do not place it in every sentence. It doesn't take the entire dictionary of unpolite words to get a point across. We understand the occasional slip of the tongue but do not make a habit of flooding the boards or chat-box with cuss words and the like. This is a friendly site and we would like it to remain that way.
